KIMBO ARCHIVE 001 : The First Rule

Nobody really knows when the Costume Archives began.

There was no grand opening. No ribbon cutting. No carefully organized closet.

There was just a costume.

Then another one.

Then a wig that clearly needed its own outfit.

One character turned into another, one song became an excuse to dress up, and somewhere along the way, the costumes stopped being something I wore and started becoming part of the story.

Because that’s the thing about costumes: they let you step outside ordinary for a minute.

You can be louder. Stranger. Bolder. Completely ridiculous. You can walk into a song as yourself and come out three minutes later as somebody who apparently owns six wigs and has very strong opinions about sequins.

And sometimes the costume surprises you.

You think you know what you’re creating until the wig goes on, the makeup changes, the music starts—and suddenly there’s a whole character staring back at you who definitely wasn’t invited.

That’s when the first rule became necessary.

RULE #1 OF THE KIMBOVERSE:

Never question the costume. It questions you.

Because once you start asking Why this wig? Why this outfit? Why am I dressed like this on a Tuesday? you’ve already missed the point.

The better question is:

Who am I about to become?

Sometimes the answer makes perfect sense.

Sometimes it absolutely does not.

But that’s part of the fun.

The Costume Archives are where those moments get to stay after the makeup comes off and the wigs go back on their stands. The costumes that worked exactly as planned. The ones that became something completely different. The last-minute ideas, questionable choices, accidental characters, and looks that had absolutely no business working as well as they did.

Future entries will tell those stories.

But the first entry belongs to the rule that started it all.

Don’t overthink it.

Don’t explain it.

And whatever you do—

Never question the costume.

It got here before you did.
